Vendor manager and procurement manager have different goals in the same company. Vendor managers want to build a strong, long-term relationship with their vendors, while procurement manager is looking for the best deal and tend to switch vendors. This creates a disparity, long term vs. short term. In addition, there is a need to cooperate with contract managers, as they are involved in the procurement process by virtue of being deadly. By the pursuit of different goals conflicts of interest can develop. In terms of IT procurement, the right balance must be found within an organization to jointly achieve the best result for the organization.
